Beauty: SIB50110 Diploma of Beauty Therapy - 2012

» Course Description:

The Diploma of Beauty Therapy offers advanced study in all aspects of Beauty Therapy. The course includes beauty treatments for the face and body, nails, make up, merchandising and business skills. The Diploma is designed for students who want to work as a beauty therapist or who want to manage their own beauty salon with employed staff.

People considering enrolment in beauty courses need to be aware that skills development for clinical work will require students to practice on each other and industry dress codes will apply. This practice will necessarily involve touch but will always be practiced and applied in accordance with industry codes of practice and ethics. Details will be provided to intending students during pre-enrolment information.
You will be eligible to receive the Diploma of Beauty Therapy on successful completion of all required competencies

» Course Notes: Students are required to wear uniform and closed toe shoes while attending class. Students will receive two uniform tops but will need to supply black uniform pants and supply their own shoes. This is a code of practice for the Community College Gippsland and all Diploma of Beauty Therapy students must apply by this code of practice. If students do not apply by this code of practices they will be asked to leave class and return in appropriate uniform. Students MUST attend course daily with make-up applied and hair must be tied back at all times and minimal jewellrey i.e. no bangles/bracelets, necklaces or dangly earrings. Students are to complete 125 hours out of courses work placement in a Beauty Salon. Participate in the Annual Hair and Beauty Competition will be a requirement of the relevant unit assessment. The Annual Hair and Beauty Competition will be held on Thursday evening, the 25th October. Students MUST attend 80% of each unit to be marked competent. If attendance is below 80% student will be marked Not Competent. If students wish to complete unit they can do so but a fee will occur. Students will need to supply models for some of the training, trainer will advise when models will be required. Community College Gippsland is holding an annual Hair and Beauty Competition, all Hair and beauty Students MUST enter at least one section of the competition.

» Essentials, Prerequisites: Entry requirements: Academic prerequisite for this course is year 11 pass, but the expectation is that students will have achieved an educational level that will enable them to achieve course objectives. Students must have basic computer skills to achieve course assessments. Students must been 16 years and over. Selection of eligible students will be based on interview with the coordinator of the program. Students must also be motivated, show an awareness of industry requirements and keenness to work in the industry.

» Pathways:

Pathways: Diploma of Beauty Therapy will equip you with relevant and comprehensive skills and knowledge to successfully enter Beauty Therapy and related industries. Diploma of Beauty Therapy covers body treatments, reflexology relaxation techniques, massage and permanent Epilating techniques. You will be eligible to receive the Diploma of Beauty Therapy on successful completion of required competencies.
 

» Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Transfers:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Students wishing to apply for RPL need to indicate this on the Enrolment Form.  RPL Application Forms are available from the Course Co-ordinator. 

Credit Transfer:  Credit Transfer is the recognition and acknowledgment of modules or units of competency acquired through prior formal credentialed training (identical academic experience).
Community College Gippsland grants Credit Transfer under our Mutual Recognition obligations.
