» Course Description:
The Harness Race Driver is an independent professional sportsperson licensed by harness racing industry authorities to compete in industry-regulated competition. A high degree of skill in handling large animals racing at speed is required of a harness driver and income depends on competition with peers and marketing services effectively. Knowledge of rules and legal procedures is essential.
Pre-requisite: Students will need to complete RGR30208 Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand) including Harness Driving units before commencing Certificate IV in Racing Harness Race Driver.
This course will run in Semester 2 dependant upon sufficient numbers.

» Course Notes: The Gippsland Harness Racing Training Centre is a fully operational racing stable that has been designed as a modern training facility and is equipped with the latest technology used in the Racing Industry.
» Duration: On completion of Certificate III Racing Advanced Stablehand the Certicificate IV Racing Harness Race Driver will commence in Semester 2 for 16 weeks full time.
» Commencement: 16th July 2012 This course will commence subject to sufficient student numbers.

» Essentials, Prerequisites: Entry requirements: Students need be 15 years of age and a minimum Year 10 or equivalent qualification. Selection of eligible students will be based on interview with an industry panel. Students will need to show elements of motivation, awareness of industry requirements and a passion to work in the industry.
» Pathways:
Pathways: Appropriate for a professional person who works independently and contracts his/her driving services on a daily basis to compete in industry regulated competition as a harness driver. Or students may wish to continue on to complete a Diploma in Racing
» Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Transfers:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Students wishing to apply for RPL need to indicate this on the Enrolment Form. RPL Application Forms are available from the Course Co-ordinator.
Credit Transfer: Credit Transfer is the recognition and acknowledgment of modules or units of competency acquired through prior formal credentialed training (identical academic experience).
Community College Gippsland grants Credit Transfer under our Mutual Recognition obligations.
