» Course Description: This pre-apprenticeship course teaches skills including customer service, working as a team, preparing clients for services, blow waving hair and an introduction to chemical usage in hair styling. This course will allow you to enter the industry as an apprentice. The course will be delivered 2 days a week in the classroom with some practical units delivered in an operational salon.
The delivery will consist of face to face classroom training, practice salon environment, homework and research.
The course will be delivered using Learner guides, industry publications, online resources, computer software, hair products and the student hair kits.
» Course Notes: Students are required to wear uniform and closed toe shoes while attending class. Students will receive one uniform top but will need to supply black uniform pants and MUST wear closed toe shoes. This is a code of practice for the Community College Gippsland Ltd all Certificate II Hairdressing students must apply by this code of practice. If students do not apply by this code of practices they will be asked to leave class and return in appropriate uniform. Students MUST attend course daily with make-up applied and hair must be styled appropriately to compliment working as a hairdresser. Students are to complete 40hrs, out of course, work placement in a Hair Salon. Participation in the Annual Hair and Beauty Competition will be a requirement of the relevant unit assessment. The Annual Hair and Beauty Competition will be held on Thursday evening, the 25th October 2012. Students MUST attend 80% of each unit to be marked competent. If attendance is below 80% student will be marked Not Competent. If students wish to complete unit they can do so but a fee will occur. Students will need to supply models for some of the training, trainer will advise when models will be required.

» Essentials, Prerequisites: Students will need a minimum Year 8 or equivalent qualification and be 15 years of age. Students must have basic computer skills to achieve course assessments. Students must also be motivated, show an awareness of industry requirements and keenness to work in the industry.
» Pathways:
: On successful completion of Certificate II in Hairdressing students may continue on to further study in the Certificate III in Hairdressing WRH30109 or students may gain an apprenticeship.
» Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Transfers:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Students wishing to apply for RPL need to indicate this on the Enrolment Form. RPL Application Forms are available from the Course Co-ordinator.
Credit Transfer: Credit Transfer is the recognition and acknowledgment of modules or units of competency acquired through prior formal credentialed training (identical academic experience).
Community College Gippsland grants Credit Transfer under our Mutual Recognition obligations.
