Hairdressing: WRH30109 Certificate III in Hairdressing - 2012

» Course Description:

Certificate III in Hairdressing covers haircutting, hair design, coloring, decolorizing, lightening and chemical reformation for male and female clients. The course also introduces occupational health and safety, hair analysis, hair structure and growth and hair and scalp disorders.  On completion of the course successful participants will be qualified to treat, cut, color and style hair and sell various products and services.
Certificate III in Hairdressing graduates will be qualified professional hairdressers.
The course consists of a combination of theory and practical experience in Community College Gippsland Ltd’s Hair and Training Centre Salon. It provides the skills necessary to work as a hairdresser, from the basics, such as how to maintain a clean, safe and efficient workplace to how to communicate effectively with those around you, and the essential fundamentals. 
The delivery will consist of face to face classroom training, practice salon environment, homework and research.  Training will include discussions, brainstorming, lecture, industry guest speakers and visits, and practical hands on experience in the salon

» Course Notes: A complete hairdressing kit must be purchases by the student at the start of the course - it may be purchases through Community College Gippsland or students may elect to source their own hair kit (full list of tools and equipment required are available at Community College Gippsland Campus Reception). If a hairdressing kit has been purchases during Certificate II in Hairdressing, most of this kit can be used for Certificate III. Pen and paper also required. Participation in the Annual Hair and Beauty Competition will be a requirement of the relevant unit assessment. The Annual Hair and Beauty Competition will be held on Thursday evening, the 25th October. Students will also be required to complete 60 hours of practical placement in a hairdressing salon.

» Essentials, Prerequisites: Students will need a minimum Year 9 or equivalent qualification and be 15 years of age. Students must have basic computer skills to achieve course assessments. Students must also be motivated, show an awareness of industry requirements and keenness to work in the industry.

» Pathways:

:  On completion of Certificate III in Hairdressing students will be Qualified Hairdressers and may continue study into Certificate IV in Hairdressing, Certificate IV in Tricology, Diploma of Salon Management.

» Recognition of Prior Learning, Credit Transfers:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Students wishing to apply for RPL need to indicate this on the Enrolment Form.  RPL Application Forms are available from the Course Co-ordinator. 

Credit Transfer:  Credit Transfer is the recognition and acknowledgment of modules or units of competency acquired through prior formal credentialed training (identical academic experience).
Community College Gippsland grants Credit Transfer under our Mutual Recognition obligations.
