Community College Gippsland has set a first for South Gippsland offering a new Certificate course in Make Up at its new Wonthaggi campus.
Wonthaggi Campus Business Operations Manager, Courtney McGill, said the new Certificate II in Make Up Services had created an opportunity for local people to learn from respected makeup artist Ally De La Rosa.
“Ally has extensive experience working in film and television and has worked on numerous television commercials including adverts for TAC and Medibank.
“To have an artist of Ally’s calibre at Community College Gippsland is fantastic for students because it exposes them to an industry professional with a wealth of skills and knowledge.”
Ms McGill said until now, local people wanting to gain specialised skills in make up artistry or beauty had to travel to Dandenong or Traralgon for this level of training.
“The course has attracted a wide range of students from school leavers to mature age people seeking to extend their skills in the beauty area to work in salons, cosmetic retail, or to set up their own businesses. It also aims to broaden their experience of make up application for bridal, fashion, photography and television.”
Student Colleen Jones said the course would compliment her existing skills in nail technology.
“Ï have just moved to the area so to access a course like this will enable me to extend my skills and employability.”
Community College Gippsland, Chief Executive Officer, Bernadette O’Connor said demand for courses at Wonthaggi was growing as the community became more aware of the College’s presence in the town.
“The recent appointment of Courtney McGill as campus manager for Wonthaggi is a major step forward in our expansion plans to increase adult education and training opportunities across South Gippsland and Bass Coast.
“Since Courtney’s appointment in August, we have extended programs at Wonthaggi to include Certificate level courses in Children’s Services, Retail, Business and Make Up.
“Courtney McGill’s role will be to continue to build partnerships with industry and community to grow course programs to meet local skills needs.”
